Bronze Age.

Research Wheel and build a Temple ASAP.

Your army should consist mostly of Chariots, Chariot Archers, and Priests. Get all of the priest upgrades as well as the Archer and Calvary upgrades.

Although your Chariots cost less than Calvary, they are more resource-efficient.

Don't bother to get Composite Bowmen; Use the souped-up Chariot Archers.

Iron Age.

You should contiune to get Chariots, Chariot Archers, Priests, and Stone Throwers.

Also get the Elephants.

Remember to research Nobility in the Gov't Center; It'll help your Chariots/Chariot Archers even more.

Try to get as many of the priest upgrades as you can without wasting money.

You might develop a surplus of gold; Pay it off as tribute to an ally. Coinage is unavailable. :(

If the game being played is an FFA, you're in luck. When gold is no longer available, the best units available are the Chariots and Chariot Archers. You're in a good position now.

If the game is a 2vs2vs2 and you're ally is Babylonian, you should try to mine your enemy's gold as well as your own. The Babylonian player should do the same with stone. Once the enemies are out of gold, the Babylonian player should build towers like crazy; some in your town too. Many units that are good in taking out towers cost gold. If gold is unavailable to the enemies, they'll have a tough time taking out the towers. Their only hope would be to research Siegecraft with their remaining gold and send a bunch of villagers in for the towers. :)

Egyptian is the best tribe for Free for Alls or games where players will soon run out of gold.
